“Reaching Out to Durham’s Hungry”
Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, there is soaring food insecurity in the United States. For example, In the county of Durham, North Carolina, 1 out of 4 families with children is food insecure.
These portraits are of some of the many “ordinary” people who are reaching out and providing food for those in need of it.
“Familias del Agua” Families of the Aysen archipelago, Chile
In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, there was the fish equivalent of a gold rush in the Chilean archipelago. Entire families moved to make-shift camps amongst the rainforests of the islands to fish for merluza, which was exported to Spain. Villages now exist on the islands where the dwellings became permanent. I made this series of photographs in 1991, as part of a book about Patagonia.
